The social rule that dictates insincere responses (the “politeness” rule) automatically came into play as soon as the computer asked about itself. Users evaluate the computer in a more polite way when the same computer ask for an evaluation of itself (Nass et al. 1994; Nass et al. 1999; Nass, Moon 2000) or an ECA (Hoffmann et al. 2009).
